About Fairdawn

The story and history of V20

From Andrew Alcantara:

She was built in 1947 and sailed in Portsmouth under Z44. She was originally named Merle. In 1958 she was brought over to Gibraltar and sailed by the Governor. She was subsequently bought by Charles Cruz & Jimmy Risso. Later she was bought by the Armstrong brothers of Charlie, Richard (Dickie) and Luis who sailed her very successfully for many years winning the the Kings Cup several times. She was then sold to Andrew Tucker and ? Bond who after a short while sold to Nick Cruz. In 2013 Nick bought a new GRP Victory (V25) and Charlie Stagnetto became the new owner.

In 2012 Fairdawn suffered major damage whilst racing during the first race of the season when she ended up on the rocks. She was repaired but inexplicably she gained one more plank on one side. She was corrected and symmetry restored.
